The GIANT Room Continues Partnership with Lysol® to Co-Design a Series of Science Kits with 1st and 2nd Graders and Their Families

The GIANT Room continues their partnership with Lysol® to bring kids’ voices into the design process of a series of Science Kits for schools

The GIANT Room, an innovation lab for children and their families, is pleased to announce they are partnering with Lysol®, the #1 most trusted and pediatrician-recommended disinfecting brand in the US, to co-design a series of Science Kits for schools as part of their HERE for Healthy Schools initiative. Last year’s co-design sessions were a huge success and many of the ideas invented by the children in these sessions were used in the creations of GIANT + Lysol® Minilab Science Kits that were then used by 4000 of Title 1 classrooms and more than 100k children across the country during the 2024-2025 school year, completely free of charge. Now, we are asking children and their families to join us and design the next updated version of these kids to be distributed in schools in the upcoming academic year.. Families with students in either first or second grade are invited to apply.

Participation entails one child and their parent joining one workshop focused on co-designing and prototyping a series of science games, activities, and experiments with Lysol® and GIANT design teams. As a token of appreciation for your participation, families will receive free set of Minilab Science Materials for each child (a comic book, Microbe ID trading cards, and hands-on materials for more than 10 activities). Kids who join will have a chance to learn and practice the art of giving and receiving feedback and then to join a prototyping exercise with industry innovators and researchers on either April 16th or 17th held in person at The GIANT Room in New York City, free of charge for families.

Lysol® is committed to giving parents and teachers the resources they need to keep kids healthy and in school. The intended impact of the HERE for Healthy Schools program  is to reduce school absenteeism through creating hands-on activities that are fun and engaging while teaching the science of germs and better hygiene behaviors. We are proud to say Lysol® Minilab Science Kits successfully supported students to learn about microbes and positive hygiene habits, and encourage them to practice these habits (like washing their hands and covering their mouth and nose while sneezing). The GIANT Room believes the most engaging and effective learning experiences are the ones that are designed with children’s point of view in mind, and even better, those that are designed with children and their families involved in the design process. Thereby, we are inviting kids and their families to join our team of researchers, educators, scientists, and designers to co-design new updates and features for the Lysol® Minilabs Science kits to make them even more engaging, impactful, and accessible while having a stronger school-home connection.

This program is completely free for children to participate. We are accepting a limited number of children in New York City to participate in the program. Families with children ages 7 to 9 years old are invited to apply.
